Emma Johnson, SUDC
Substance Abuse Counselor
Emma Johnson, SUDC and MSW-in-training, works from an identity-focused, harm-reduction approach that views substance use as a solution teens have developed to cope, connect, or make sense of overwhelming experiences. She helps adolescents explore what substances have been doing for them emotionally and socially and supports them in building healthier ways of navigating their world without needing to flee, numb, or disconnect.
Emma’s role extends beyond traditional counseling. She serves as a bridge between teens and parents, supporting both generations in understanding one another with more clarity, compassion, and realistic expectations. She facilitates hard conversations grounded in developmentally appropriate, realistic transition planning and helps families move from fear-based reactions toward support-based parenting.
Her scope of practice includes providing individual counseling, family counseling, and group therapy. She guides parents through supportive communication strategies and helps them shift from fear-based reactions toward connection and clarity. She also exposes youth to a variety of recovery communities and offers workshops that build emotional insight, coping skills, and identity development. Emma’s work is collaborative, relational, and rooted in the belief that lasting change happens when young people feel seen, understood, and empowered.
